To commemorate its 90th anniversary, the Punjas Group has initiated a substantial sustainability effort by planting 9,000 mangrove seedlings along Wailoaloa Beach in collaboration with the Ministry of Forestry. This initiative is not only aimed at restoring coastal ecosystems but also emphasizes Punjas’ dedication to environmental stewardship and erosion protection.

The mangrove planting event involved enthusiastic participation from Punjas Group employees, who worked alongside forestry experts for technical guidance and coordination. Mr. Rajesh Punja, the Managing Director of Punjas Group, expressed that this event represents more than just a symbolic gesture; it stands as a meaningful tribute to the land and communities that have supported the company over the past nine decades. He highlighted the protective role of mangroves, stating, “It’s a small step, but one that carries a lot of heart.”

Mr. Punja further articulated that sustainability is deeply rooted in the company’s values, reinforcing the idea that building for the future—both economically and environmentally—remains a priority. This initiative signifies a commitment to fostering resilience against climate change and promoting community wellbeing, showcasing a holistic approach to corporate responsibility that transcends mere profit generation.

The Ministry of Forestry applauded this public-private partnership, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts in achieving national tree-planting objectives and safeguarding biodiversity. The mangrove restoration is part of a series of planned activities throughout 2025 to celebrate Punjas as a trusted name in Fijian households and across the Pacific region.

This type of corporate initiative underscores a growing trend among businesses in Fiji, such as the Motibhai Group and Fiji Marriott Resort, who also engage in environmental sustainability practices. As more companies take action to protect natural resources, there is a hopeful outlook for continued community engagement and climate resilience, nurturing a healthier environment for future generations.
