The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change is inviting the public to participate in the review of an Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) report concerning the proposed Barret Place Apartments, a 13-storey residential complex planned for Laucala Bay in Suva. The development is put forward by Charan Katonivere Holdings Pte Ltd and is set to be constructed on Lot 18, DP 5274, Barret Place.

In accordance with the Environment Management (Amendment) Act 2025, citizens have a 21-day window to examine the EIA report and submit their comments starting from the date it is filed with the EIA Administrator. A physical copy of the report will be accessible to the public beginning December 27, 2025, at several locations, including the Department of Environment Headquarters, Bali Towers Level 2, the Toorak Police Post, and the Flagstaff Police Post.

The Department of Environment emphasizes that feedback is essential and will be considered valid if received within the specified timeframe of 21 working days following the report’s availability. All submissions must be directed to the Department of Environment by January 27, 2026. This initiative not only encourages community participation but also ensures that local concerns are factored into environmental planning and development processes, fostering a collaborative approach to urban development in the region.
