The Department of Environment has announced that it has received an Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) report for a proposed seven-storey office and apartment complex on Lot 1, Knolly Street. This site currently houses the headquarters of the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management. The project is being put forth by RB Patel Group Ltd., signaling a potential shift in the urban landscape of the area.
As per the Environment Management (Amendment) Act 2025, the public has the right to review the EIA and provide their feedback within a timeframe of 21 working days from its publication date. This offers the community a chance to voice their opinions and concerns regarding the development project.
From December 27, 2025, hard-copy reports will be accessible at the Department of Environment headquarters located on Level 2 of Bali Towers in Toorak, during regular office hours. Copies will also be available at the Toorak and Flagstaff Police Posts, enhancing accessibility for the public.
Interested individuals and organizations are encouraged to submit their comments before the deadline of January 27, 2026. This initiative highlights the Department’s commitment to transparency and public involvement in environmental matters. With community input playing a crucial role, there is hope that the project can be shaped to balance development with environmental concerns and local interests.
