The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is calling on the public to take action against dangerous driving behaviors rather than remaining silent. Chief Executive Irimaia Rokosawa emphasized that road safety cannot be ensured by the Authority alone, highlighting the importance of public engagement as the number of vehicles on the roads continues to rise.

Rokosawa pointed out that discussions around unsafe driving often arise only after accidents have occurred, particularly on social media, rather than being reported through appropriate channels beforehand. He urged both motorists and pedestrians to play an active role in enhancing road safety.

“As Fijians say, it seems to be like a taboo that we do not speak up. But we would rather resort to social media and express our frustrations there. That approach is quite reactive, and we want to foster a more proactive stance toward road safety,” Rokosawa stated.

The Authority has established various platforms that the public can utilize to report incidents and provide crucial information. Statistics reveal that speeding is the primary contributor to road fatalities, accounting for approximately 40 percent of annual deaths. By encouraging proactive reporting of dangerous driving, the LTA aims to reduce these alarming statistics and foster a safer driving environment for everyone.
