The psychiatric evaluation for Charles Laxton Sundar, a 25-year-old accused of murdering and dismembering his 86-year-old grandfather in Lutu, Wainibuka, in July of last year, is still pending. State prosecutor Naazish Ali informed the court that medical professionals at St Giles Hospital require additional consultations with Sundar before they can complete the report necessary for the court proceedings.

The case was reviewed by Justice Usaia Ratuvili at the High Court in Suva, where it was emphasized that the psychiatric report is crucial in determining Sundar’s competency to enter a plea. As a result, Sundar remains in custody, and the court has set the next hearing date for January 20. This ongoing legal process underscores the complexities involved in cases where mental health assessments play a pivotal role in judicial outcomes. As the situation develops, there remains hope for a thorough examination of Sundar’s mental state to ensure justice is served appropriately.
