A psychiatric evaluation report for Charles Laxton Sundar, accused of murdering and dismembering his 86-year-old grandfather, remains incomplete as he has yet to undergo a necessary assessment. During a session at the High Court in Suva, his attorney, Andala Dean, revealed to Justice Usaia Ratuvili that no formal court order has been issued for Mr. Sundar to attend St Giles Hospital for the evaluation.
The 25-year-old stands charged with the murder of Emori Rokovuki, with prosecutors claiming that on July 12, 2025, Mr. Sundar fatally slit his grandfather’s throat before dismembering the body. Justice Ratuvili has mandated that Mr. Sundar be presented at St Giles for the psychiatric evaluation, following which he will continue to be held in custody.
Court records indicate that proceedings have been pending a psychiatric report since November 2025 to assess Mr. Sundar’s fitness to enter a plea. Following the latest hearing, he has been remanded in custody again, with the next court appearance scheduled for March 10 for further review.
This case highlights the critical intersection of mental health evaluation and legal processes, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that individuals facing serious charges receive appropriate assessments to facilitate just proceedings. As this case evolves, it reflects broader discussions about mental health considerations within the legal framework.
