Pryde’s Plea: Urgent Call for Tribunal Report Release

Christopher Pryde, the suspended Director of Public Prosecutions, has reached out to the Office of the President, urging for a swift resolution regarding his prolonged suspension and pay situation. Since his suspension in April 2023, which stemmed from allegations of misconduct related to a photograph taken with former attorney-general Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum—who was under investigation at that time—Pryde’s professional and financial circumstances have been in disarray.

In a letter made public, Mr. Pryde requested access to the tribunal report concerning the allegations against him, confirming that the report had been submitted to the President on December 23, 2024. He stated that he had been directed to contact the President’s office for a copy of the report and emphasized his rights under the Constitution, specifically referencing section 112(6), which mandates public disclosure of the tribunal’s findings.

Pryde also mentioned that according to section 112(3)(c), the President is required to act based on the tribunal’s advice. If the report indicates insufficient evidence of wrongdoing, he asserts that his suspension should end immediately and his salary should be restored.

Mr. Pryde noted the significant impact of his almost two-year suspension on his financial well-being, highlighting that it has led to considerable hardships. He expressed a sense of urgency for this matter to reach a conclusion, given that the tribunal has completed its investigation. In his request, he seeks clarity on the report’s outcome and reinstatement if the findings are in his favor.

This situation underscores the importance of due process and the need for timely conclusions in legal matters, particularly when they can affect the livelihoods and reputations of individuals. A prompt resolution could restore not only Mr. Pryde’s position but also public confidence in the processes of accountability within the legal system.
