The report from the Tribunal investigating allegations against suspended Director of Public Prosecutions, Christopher Pryde, is set to be released after review by President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu. This Tribunal, consisting of three members led by Justice Anare Tuilevuka, was appointed under section 112 of Fiji’s Constitution to delve into the claims concerning Pryde’s conduct.

The Tribunal submitted its findings to the President on December 23. According to a statement from the President’s Office, thorough consideration of the Report is necessary, including consultations and obtaining advice. However, the release of the Report has been slightly stalled because many officials are currently on Christmas and New Year’s leave. The President aims to finalize the review once officials return to work in the New Year.

It has been noted that the Report must be made public as required by the Constitution. Pryde has also formally requested a copy of the report and its public disclosure. He emphasized that if the Report concludes there is insufficient evidence of misconduct, he expects an immediate lift of his suspension and reinstatement as Director of Public Prosecutions.

This situation underscores the importance of transparency and accountability within public offices, shedding light on the procedures surrounding allegations of misconduct. There is hope that the timely release of the findings will ensure justice is served and that the integrity of the prosecutorial office is maintained.

Overall, while the delay is understandably tied to holiday schedules, it’s crucial that such matters are addressed promptly to uphold public confidence in the legal and governmental systems in Fiji.
