A father of five was overwhelmed with emotion as he witnessed his oldest son receive two prestigious awards at the Fiji National University graduation. Alipate Moli, the family’s sole provider, attended the ceremony with his family to support Sakaraia Qilu, 22, who was honored with the Outstanding Academic Achievement Graduate in Nursing as well as a Certificate of Excellence and Dean’s Honours.
“It was the proudest moment for any father who has worked tirelessly to ensure that his children succeed,” Mr. Moli expressed. He shared that his demanding job in the hotel industry requires him to spend 11 days on an island resort, but he always makes time to call his children and check on their academic progress, despite the limited time they share together.
Sakaraia’s accomplishments did not come as a surprise to those who know him; he was recognized as one of the top performers in his earlier school years, including receiving a best Biology student trophy during his secondary education. “My passion for nursing comes from my love of caring for people,” Mr. Qilu noted.
Looking ahead, he plans to pursue a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery and eventually earn a doctorate. He aims to inspire his siblings about the importance of education, urging them to avoid negative paths and instead focus on their futures. “I want them to know that hard work pays off and that they should strive to achieve their best,” he emphasized.
Mr. Qilu also credited his mother for her unwavering support and guidance, which has shaped his perspective on life’s realities. His parting advice was to surround oneself with positive influences, stating, “Get better friends! With a good circle of friends, you can advance and achieve your goals.”
This celebration of academic achievement not only highlights the bonds of family and parental sacrifice but also serves as a beacon of hope for young individuals striving to make a positive impact in their communities.
