Ifereimi Waqacama Vesikula, a dedicated father from Namara, Tailevu, expressed immense pride and gratitude as he celebrated his daughter’s remarkable achievements in sports education. At the Fiji National University (FNU) graduation held at Vodafone Arena in Suva, his daughter, Mere Drewai Vesikula, 21, earned two certificates in Sports Science, achieving Level 4 and Level 5 recognition. Notably, she was one of only three students to receive the Level 5 certificate and the sole recipient of the Level 4 certificate.
Mr. Vesikula shared insights into his daughter’s sports journey, recalling how they supported her passion from a young age. Mere stood out as the only girl on the Tailevu South Under-9 boys’ rugby team during the Milo Kaji games in primary school. Despite concerns that she might shift her focus after graduating from Adi Cakobau School, she remained committed to pursuing a career in Sports Science.
Mere expressed her gratitude, dedicating her successes to her family, especially her mother, who works as a nurse in Australia. She acknowledged the challenges she faced, such as the daily commute from Tailevu to Nasinu and occasional financial struggles, but emphasized that her family’s support kept her motivated and focused.
Currently, Mere is completing an attachment at a gym in Nasinu and aspires to become a Physical Education, Music, Arts, and Craft teacher. Mr. Vesikula highlighted the essential role parents play in nurturing their children’s dreams, stressing that no challenge should overshadow the importance of supporting their aspirations.
This story is a testament to how unwavering support from family can lead to incredible achievements, inspiring others to prioritize children’s dreams regardless of hardships. It highlights the importance of perseverance and community backing in the pursuit of education and career goals.
