Ifereimi Waqacama Vesikula, a proud father from Namara, Tailevu, expressed his joy and gratitude as his support for his daughter’s athletic pursuits paid off. His daughter, Mere Drewai Vesikula, 21, graduated from the Fiji National University (FNU) during a ceremony held at the Vodafone Arena in Suva, where she earned two certificates in Sports Science – Level 4 and Level 5.
Mere stood out as one of only three students to receive the Level 5 certificate and was the sole recipient of the Level 4 certificate. Driven by her passion for sports from a young age, she had been a trailblazer, being the only girl in the Tailevu South Under-9 boys’ rugby team during her primary schooling.
Despite some doubts after her high school years at Adi Cakobau School, Mere remained committed to her ambition of studying Sports Science. She dedicated her achievements to her family, particularly her mother, who works as a nurse in Australia. Mere faced challenges, including daily commutes from Tailevu to Nasinu for classes and financial difficulties, but she credited her family for their unwavering support and encouragement.
Mere is currently completing her attachment at a gym in Nasinu, hoping to become a teacher of Physical Education, Music, and Arts and Craft. Her father emphasized the significant role parents play in nurturing their children’s dreams, urging them to prioritize their children’s aspirations regardless of life’s challenges.
