Acting Director of Public Prosecutions, Nancy Tikoisuva, announced that her office is nearing the completion of the vetting process for two significant cases. The first case involves the alleged misappropriation of $450,000 from the Police Credit Union and accusations of abuse of power involving several senior members of the Fiji Police Force. These allegations were initially brought to light by Assistant Police Commissioner for Crime, Mesake Waqa, during a special general meeting of the Fiji Police Credit Union earlier this year.
Tikoisuva emphasized the thoroughness of their vetting process to ensure accuracy, stating the importance of having multiple perspectives review the findings to avoid overlooking any detail. The report is expected to be finalized by next Friday, November 29.
Additionally, Tikoisuva revealed that a report on a tragic Ferris wheel accident, which resulted in the death of a 21-year-old woman during the 2023 Fiji Showcase at the Vodafone Arena carpark in Suva, is also anticipated to be released by next Friday. She stressed the necessity of a meticulous investigation for both cases before any further actions can occur. Once the investigations are concluded, the reports will undergo additional reviews by other prosecutors before reaching her for final approval.
This clarification on critical investigations reflects a commitment to accountability and justice in Fiji’s law enforcement and regulatory practices. The upcoming reports may provide much-needed closure to the affected families and the public, showcasing the importance of diligence in the pursuit of justice.
