Prominent Lawyer Appointed as Acting Director of Public Prosecutions

Nancy Tikoisuva has been appointed as the Acting Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Ms. Tikoisuva received her formal appointment notification yesterday from President Ratu Willame Katonivere.

She mentioned that she received the letter around 3:30 PM following John Rabuku’s departure from the office on Wednesday.

“My appointment comes at a time when there have been significant changes in the office’s leadership,” Ms. Tikoisuva said.

“Our focus is to maintain the momentum on the strategic directions decided in the office, and I’m thankful that the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) chose to make this appointment internally. I have a team that has shown their support.”

Ms. Tikoisuva is well-experienced in leadership roles, having served as acting assistant director for DPP during Mr. Rabuku’s tenure.

A prominent lawyer, Ms. Tikoisuva worked with Toganivalu Legal law firm. She has also served as an External Academic with the University of the South Pacific (USP) and as a consultant with the Food Agricultural Organisation (FAO).

With over 18 years of experience, she graduated from USP in 2003 and earned her Masters in Law in 2022.

“I am the second local female, the third female in the history of the DPP’s office, and the first iTaukei female to hold this role,” she stated.

Her message to her female colleagues was: “Don’t give up, don’t be discouraged by bureaucracy, let your work speak for itself.”
