Climate change mitigation specialist, Ranjila Singh, has highlighted that the National Climate Change Finance Strategy identifies priority projects from both the adaptation and mitigation sectors of climate projects. Singh, speaking at the Situation Analysis Workshop on Forest Landscape Restoration on Tuesday, mentioned that these projects align with the National Development Plan.

She continued to explain the alignment stating, “The finances we currently receive, once we request for areas of support, are generally in line with the finance strategy”.

Ranjila Singh indicated that some of these projects were presented to the National Climate Change Committee, where decisions about prioritizing these projects are made based on governmental needs and priorities. Once prioritized, the projects are executed.

She further shared that her division had obtained $US5.7million ($F12.9m) from the adaptation fund for 16 communities who requested nature-based sea walls.

“We cooperate with various agencies depending on the available funds. We also receive project funding requests from ministries,” concluded Singh.
