Probe into DPP Misconduct: Suspended Director Requests Tribunal Report from President

Suspended Director of Public Prosecutions, Christopher Pryde, has formally reached out to President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, seeking a copy of the Tribunal Report regarding the allegations of misbehaviour against him. In his correspondence, Pryde indicated that he was informed the report was delivered to the President on December 23, 2024. When he requested a copy from the Tribunal directly, they redirected him to contact the President’s office.

In his letter, Pryde emphasized that according to section 112 (6) of the Constitution, the report must be made public as a mandatory requirement. He also referenced section 112 (3)(c), which states that the President should act upon the Tribunal’s advice, and section 112 (5) that allows for the cessation of suspension if the Tribunal deems insufficient evidence exists for removal.

Pryde expressed the urgency of the situation, noting that it has been nearly 21 months since his suspension in April 2023 and almost six months without a salary, which has caused significant financial strain. He urged the President to inform him of the report’s findings, provide a copy for publication, and lift his suspension if the allegations are found to lack sufficient evidence, thereby allowing for his reinstatement and resumption of salary and entitlements.

This situation underscores the importance of transparency and adherence to constitutional mandates in the handling of high-profile legal matters. It also highlights the need for a swift resolution to ensure that individuals’ rights are upheld and they can continue their professional lives without prolonged uncertainty.

In summarizing the article, we see that Pryde is advocating for clarity and fairness regarding the allegations against him, reflecting a hope for a resolution that not only reinstates him but restores his financial stability. It showcases the broader issue of ensuring timely justice within the legal framework.
