Prime Minister Unaware of Church’s Concerns Amid Controversial Statement

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has stated that he is not aware of any issues raised by the Methodist Church of Fiji regarding the remarks made by Lynda Tabuya, the Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection. Ms. Tabuya has faced backlash for proposing the death penalty for individuals who traffic large quantities of drugs.

Mr. Rabuka expressed to a local newspaper, “No, I have not been informed, I have not heard from the MCIF directly.” As of the publication of this article, Mr. Rabuka had not indicated whether he would hold a meeting with Ms. Tabuya upon his return to Fiji.

Currently, Mr. Rabuka is in Tonga for the 53rd Pacific Island Forum Leaders Meeting, which is scheduled to conclude tomorrow.
