Prime Minister Calls for Action Against Kava Abuse

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka addressed the Tailevu Provincial Council meeting in Vuci Village on Wednesday, calling for an end to kava abuse. He urged attendees to limit their kava consumption, highlighting concerns over the rising rates of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) across the nation.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Rabuka emphasized the council’s role as a forum to address social issues in local communities and stressed the importance of village leaders in regulating kava consumption. He also underscored the need to empower individuals, aiding them to face the current challenges effectively.

The Prime Minister noted that various issues have arisen among Fijians, making a collaborative effort critical for enhancing lives and building resilience. He commended the province’s Strategic Development Plan for aligning with government goals, stating that the Tailevu Provincial Council would prioritize development this year. According to Mr. Rabuka, strong leadership is essential to achieving their developmental aspirations.
