President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere is anticipated to secure a second term in office by the end of this month. The Parliamentary Business Committee has confirmed that Parliament will convene on October 31 at 11 am to appoint a President. According to sources, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has nominated Ratu Wiliame for the position.

Originally, Parliament was set to nominate and appoint a President on October 3, with the agenda item listed as number four. However, this agenda was postponed after Prime Minister Rabuka indicated there was a potential disagreement regarding the presidential nomination. He subsequently requested the Speaker of Parliament, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, to withdraw item number four due to some “discomfort” surrounding his nomination.

The Opposition has not disclosed any information regarding their nominee.
