The Public Service Commission (PSC) has announced a reshuffle of Permanent Secretaries, set to take effect on February 3, 2025. This strategic move, made in collaboration with the Prime Minister, reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to enhance leadership capabilities across key ministries.
Chairman of the PSC, Luke Rokovada, emphasized that the reshuffle aims to optimize the management and effectiveness of public service roles. Dr. Raijeli Taga will transition from her current position as the Permanent Secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister to lead the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Taking her place will be Dr. Lesikimacuata Korovavala, the current Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, who will also take on additional responsibilities as the Acting Permanent Secretary for Immigration.
Furthermore, Mr. Manasa Lesuma, who is currently the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Housing, will begin serving as the Acting Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Policing as of January 14, 2025.
This reshuffle is designed to strengthen governance by ensuring that skilled individuals are directing the nation’s ministries, which will foster greater responsiveness to the public’s needs. The PSC’s initiative is part of a larger strategy to improve public sector performance, and reinforces the government’s reliance on local talent for effective leadership. The changes may also lead to increased accountability and innovative solutions to current administrative challenges.
In summary, this reshuffling within the Fijian government underscores a proactive approach to enhance governance and service delivery, indicating positive prospects for efficient public administration in the future.
