Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) reported experiencing significant thunder and lightning activity in the Monasavu area, which led to disruptions in power supply. According to Acting Chief Operating Officer Bobby Naimawi, at 6 AM, the transmission lines from Wailoa to Cunningham Road in Suva and from Wailoa to Vuda in Lautoka, both operating at 132,000 volts, tripped due to a lightning strike. This event resulted in a temporary loss of electricity for parts of the Central and Western Divisions of Viti Levu.
Fortunately, Naimawi stated that EFL teams quickly responded to the situation, successfully re-energizing the main transmission line. By 8:30 AM, power restoration was completed, bringing electricity back to affected areas.
This quick response reflects the dedication and efficiency of EFL’s teams in managing unexpected weather-related challenges. Residents can take comfort in knowing that the infrastructure and personnel are in place to swiftly restore power during such disturbances, ensuring minimal disruption to daily life.
