A fallen tree on the 132kV Transmission Line connecting the Wailoa Power Station to the Cunningham Road Zone Substation in Suva has resulted in a significant power outage in the Central Division this afternoon.
Hasmukh Patel, the chief executive of Energy Fiji Limited, reported that a tree being cut in Waibau accidentally toppled onto the 132,000-volt transmission line. This incident disrupted the flow of electricity from the Wailoa Hydro Electric Power Station to the substation in Suva.
“Our teams are en route to clear the fallen tree from the transmission line so that we can restore electrical service,” Patel stated. “While we are working to supply power to the affected areas through the Kinoya Power Station, it will take some time to completely restore services to the Central Division.”
Patel also urged the public to treat all power lines as live and to maintain a safe distance, as any power line could become electrified unexpectedly.
“We apologize for this unforeseen power disruption and the inconveniences it has caused, which is beyond our control. We appreciate the cooperation and understanding of our valued customers,” Patel added.
