A fallen tree on the 132kV Transmission Line from Wailoa Power Station to Cunningham Road Zone Substation in Suva led to a significant power supply disruption in the Central Division this afternoon.

Hasmukh Patel, the chief executive of Energy Fiji Limited, reported that a tree being cut in Waibau accidentally fell onto the 132,000-volt transmission line. This incident interrupted the electricity flow from the Wailoa Hydro Electric Power Station to the Cunningham Road Zone Substation in Suva.

“Our teams are currently en route to remove the fallen tree from the transmission line so that it can be re-energized,” Patel stated. He added that efforts are underway to restore power to the affected areas through the Kinoya Power Station, but it will take time to fully reinstate service in the Central Division.

Patel urged the public to treat all power lines as live and to maintain a safe distance due to the risk of electrification at any time. He concluded by apologizing for the unplanned disruption and the inconvenience it has caused, emphasizing the situation was beyond their control and requesting the understanding and cooperation of their customers.
