Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) has announced that next week, it will temporarily de-energize several powerlines and restrict traffic flow to ensure the safe transport of oversized generating sets from Kings Wharf in Walu Bay to the EFL Kinoya Depot in Nasinu. This operation will take place on Monday, May 26, and Tuesday, May 27, 2025, between 3 AM and 7 AM.
EFL’s Chief Executive, Fatiaki Gibson, explained that two 10MW generating sets will be transported, with one unit being moved each day. Due to the size and weight of the cargo, specialized heavy-haulage transport equipment will be deployed to secure the safe movement of the generators.
As a consequence, traffic will be restricted along the designated transportation routes. Motorists and the general public are encouraged to plan their commutes accordingly and consider alternate routes to avoid delays. The Fiji Police Force will assist in managing traffic during this operation.
The transportation route includes a departure from King’s Wharf North Gate and will pass through several key streets, including Harris Road, Edinburgh Drive, and Kings Road, before arriving at the EFL Kinoya Depot.
Additionally, residents in affected areas may experience temporary power outages. These outages will affect several neighborhoods, including parts of Reservoir Road, Princess Road up to the Australian Embassy, portions of Mead Road, and various connecting streets.
For any inquiries, the public can contact EFL at 132 333 or, for emergencies, at 913.
This planned operation is part of EFL’s ongoing efforts to enhance electrical infrastructure and ensure reliable power supply for the community. While temporary disruptions may be inconvenient, they are essential steps in improving long-term service reliability.
