A coordinated effort between the Fiji Police Force and the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service has led to the confiscation of equipment that could potentially be used for an illegal laboratory.

Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew reported that task forces from both the Western and Eastern Divisions, along with K9 units including the Fiji Detector Dog Unit, intercepted the consignment at a warehouse in Nadi on Friday, July 12.

Tests conducted on substances found in several containers identified them as known medications rather than illicit substances. However, these medications are also recognized as precursors, prompting an investigation into possible manufacturing activities.

Chew stated that the focus is now on the manufacturing aspect, as many cartons contained equipment commonly used in the production of illicit drugs.

The Acting head of the Fiji Police emphasized the importance of this seizure in their ongoing fight against all forms of drug-related offenses, including illegal possession, cultivation, importation, and manufacturing.

Investigations are ongoing, with six individuals currently being questioned. The inquiry is in its early stages, and more people are expected to be interviewed in the near future.
