Lynda Tabuya, the Minister for Women and a member of The People’s Alliance party, emphasized the importance of prioritizing the needs of the people of Fiji in light of recent comments made by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, which may indicate internal tensions within the party. She asserted her unwavering support for Mr. Rabuka and confirmed her intention to run in the 2026 elections under his leadership.
In an interview last week, Tabuya acknowledged the inherent nature of politics, which sometimes necessitates reflection and realignment. She underscored that while political choices are personal and respected, her efforts remain focused on the responsibilities ahead.
“The people of Fiji entrusted us with creating meaningful change, and we are still in that process,” she said.
Tabuya pointed out that while discussions around forming new parties are common in political circles, they can detract from the vital work at hand, which is to implement the government’s plans for the benefit of all Fijians. She expressed her commitment to advancing initiatives that support the most vulnerable groups, including women, children, the elderly, the disabled, and the economy as a whole.
She further encouraged her fellow party members to remember their original purpose for uniting — to serve the Fijian people. “That remains my guiding principle,” she affirmed.
