Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has avoided confirming if any measures will be taken against Minister for Women, Lynda Tabuya, following her insubordination. Ms. Tabuya recently made public remarks advocating for the reintroduction of the death penalty as a means to deter drug traffickers in Fiji, a topic that should have been addressed within the Cabinet first.

Earlier this week, Mr. Rabuka indicated that the Cabinet would handle the situation involving Ms. Tabuya. She has a history of disregarding Cabinet protocols, leading some to urge her dismissal from her ministerial position.

In a recent interview, Mr. Rabuka expressed that he did not wish to make any premature judgments regarding the matter. “The issue of Lynda Tabuya has not been dealt with,” he stated. He added that he had not been in Fiji long enough to resolve the concerns, which were expected to be discussed by the Cabinet. Mr. Rabuka noted that it was unfortunate for Ms. Tabuya to express her opinions publicly before Cabinet deliberations.
