Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has officially removed Lynda Tabuya from her role as Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection. The dismissal was attributed to concerns regarding her conduct and the expectations placed upon government ministers. This decision follows the surfacing of a private video involving Tabuya, which has raised questions about her suitability for the position.
The dismissal was executed in accordance with Section 92(3)(b) of the Constitution and is effective immediately. However, Tabuya will continue to serve as a Member of Parliament. In her place, Sashi Kiran, the Assistant Women’s Minister, has been appointed as the new Minister for the portfolio, pending her official swearing-in by the President.
In this time of transition, it is crucial for the new appointee to focus on the important issues affecting women and children, ensuring that the ministry can continue its essential work. This change in leadership may also provide an opportunity for fresh perspectives and initiatives in addressing the needs of vulnerable populations.
