The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Manoa Kamikamica, has dismissed social media allegations regarding political interference in the appointment of Barbara Malimali as Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC). In an interview with FijiLive, Kamikamica described the claims as absurd and disrespectful to the Judicial Services Commission, which operates independently under the leadership of the Acting Chief Justice. He pointed out that the individual making these comments is located overseas, and suggested that if she were in Fiji, legal action would have already been taken against her. “It’s unfortunate that people would consider her a credible source. It’s a shame she is hiding abroad, or she would face legal repercussions,” Kamikamica stated.
