The Fiji Police Operations Headquarters recently conducted an extensive two-day surge operation across Viti Levu, spanning from Navua to Nalawa in Ra. This initiative involved various units within the Operations Unit, including the Traffic, K-9, Fiji Detector Dog Unit, Water Police, Community Policing, and Tourist Police, as well as Crime Stoppers and the Fiji Police Band.
During the operation, the Traffic and K9 units performed random checks on vehicles, while Crime Stoppers engaged with high schools as part of their Scholastic Program. The Tourist Police interacted with hotels along the main highways, and the Water Police collaborated with Community Policing to raise awareness within local communities.
The Fiji Police Force marching band added a festive touch by performing at selected locations, contributing to community engagement throughout the operation. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kasiano Vusonilawe emphasized that the sudden nature of the exercise surprised many drivers, leading to the detection of traffic violations, such as expired wheel taxes and passenger overloading, as well as drug-related offenses identified by the K9 units.
SSP Vusonilawe noted that these operations not only aim to enforce the law but also foster dialogue with community stakeholders, addressing issues encountered in daily policing. He highlighted the importance of such awareness campaigns as a reminder for citizens to comply with local laws, particularly as the festive season approaches.
This proactive approach demonstrates the Fiji Police’s commitment to ensuring public safety and building stronger community relationships, assuring residents that their safety is a priority.
In summary, the Fiji Police’s recent surge operations reflect their dedication to maintaining law and order, while also engaging with the community, setting a positive tone as the festive season approaches.
