Police are urging parents to educate their children about the dangers and legal consequences of splashing water on moving vehicles. This plea follows complaints from several motorists, highlighting a growing concern since the New Year celebrations.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu referenced a concerning video circulating on social media that depicted a bus driver as a recent victim of such reckless behavior. He emphasized, “Such actions can lead to accidents that may cause injuries or even fatalities. Please celebrate responsibly and refrain from throwing water at moving vehicles.”
Driu pointed out that those engaging in this behavior could face legal action under Section 15 of the Minor Offences Act of 1971 or be charged with Negligent Acts Causing Harm under Section 269 of the Crimes Act of 2009. He warned that the severity of the injury inflicted on victims could potentially escalate the offense to murder.
Understanding that children may not grasp the serious implications of their actions, ACP Driu stressed the responsibility of parents to communicate these risks effectively. He also encouraged adults within the community to engage with children who partake in these activities to encourage safer behaviors.
The police remain vigilant, promising to monitor such incidents closely. ACP Driu concluded with a call for community cooperation in ensuring everyone’s safety: “Let’s continue to look out for each other.”
This initiative is a great reminder of the crucial role communities play in child education and public safety. Through open communication and collective responsibility, we can foster a safer environment for all during celebratory times.
