The Police M-PAiSA Task Force is intensifying its focus on scams that are increasingly targeting users of the M-PAiSA platform, which has become a significant concern for the community. Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew, is encouraging the public, especially parents and guardians, to remain vigilant during the withdrawal of government-provided back-to-school assistance funds.
To ensure safety during financial transactions, Fong Chew has specifically advised against sending children or unaccompanied individuals to withdraw money, emphasizing the importance of adult supervision to mitigate potential fraud risks.
The Acting Commissioner underscored the need for caution, particularly as many families access the recently disbursed $200 government assistance from various outlets such as Vodafone Fiji Limited and M-PAiSA agents. He cautioned that scam artists often lurk at the sidelines, waiting for opportunities to exploit unsuspecting individuals.
Furthermore, Fong Chew highlighted the vulnerabilities associated with online financial transactions, urging the public to be cautious about sharing sensitive personal information, including Personal Identification Numbers (PINs) and passwords. He explained that the process of recovering lost funds can be time-consuming and complex due to required procedures involving law enforcement.
