Authorities are urging parents and the wider community to educate children about the legal repercussions of splashing water on moving vehicles. This appeal follows multiple complaints from motorists since the start of the New Year, exacerbated by a recent video circulating on social media that depicted a bus driver being targeted.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu emphasized the dangers associated with this behavior, stating, “Such actions can cause accidents, which can lead to injuries or death. Please celebrate responsibly and don’t throw water on moving vehicles.” He highlighted that individuals who partake in this activity could face investigations under the Minor Offences Act of 1971 or the Crimes Act of 2009, with potential charges escalating to murder depending on the severity of resulting injuries.

ACPO Driu pointed out that many children may not fully grasp the serious consequences of their actions, highlighting the crucial role of parents and community members in guiding them. “Police officers are around and will continue to monitor such incidents. Let’s continue to look out for one another and assist in ensuring everyone’s safety,” he concluded.

This initiative serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible behavior during celebrations while fostering a sense of community vigilance. By working together, we can cultivate a safer environment for all.

Overall, this situation underlines the need for proactive communication between parents and children about safety and legal responsibilities, potentially reducing accidents and fostering a culture of accountability in festive circumstances.
