The Commissioner of Police, Rusiate Tudravu, has reversed a previous decision that denied a permit for a religious event scheduled to take place in Suva tomorrow. The Fiji Police Force confirmed that the event does not require a permit as it is not situated in a public area. Commissioner Tudravu praised the organiser’s initiative to apply for the permit, highlighting that this reflects a cooperative spirit with law enforcement in adherence to the Public Order Act.

Recognizing the significant turnout expected at the gathering, police have asked for the organiser’s full cooperation to ensure the safety of all attendees and to maintain public order. Authorities reiterated their readiness to intervene if any safety issues arise during the event. The Fiji Police Force has extended apologies for any confusion caused by the initial denial and is committed to ensuring a peaceful assembly.

This development highlights a positive approach towards community engagement and cooperation with law enforcement. Such collaboration is crucial for maintaining peace during public gatherings, and it reflects the importance of mutual respect between citizens and authorities. Active participation in community events, when done safely, encourages unity and strengthens bonds among diverse groups in Fiji.
