The police team successfully defended their title in the 2024 Vodafone Ratu Sukuna Bowl Competition, emerging victorious over the Army with a close score of 20-19. The match took place at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, marking a momentous occasion not only for the team but also for the Fiji Police Force, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year.
Coach Solomone Nute praised his team’s commitment and hard work during the match, highlighting young player Ponipate Tuberi for his exceptional performance that garnered him the man of the match award. This recognition reflects the growth and potential of the younger players within the team.
On the other hand, Army captain John Muller expressed disappointment over the close loss, noting that they had significant opportunities to clinch the victory but fell short.
Throughout the week-long Sukuna Bowl competition, the Police team excelled in various sports, securing victories in Cricket, Soccer, Boxing, Volleyball, and Development rugby. Meanwhile, the Army managed to win in Netball and women’s rugby, illustrating a strong but unequal competition this year.
This triumph for the police not only reinforces their athletic prowess but also serves as a celebration of community spirit and resilience, marking a hopeful future for both teams as they continue to compete and represent their respective forces.
