The Police boxing team secured a strong start at the Sukuna Bowl Boxing competition, winning seven out of eleven bouts on the event’s opening day held at the LICI Court in Suva on Tuesday.

Jone Davule, the captain of the Police team and a representative of the National Amateur Boxing squad, showcased his skills by clinching victory in his first fight against Army’s Pita Nasowaqa through a points decision. Petero Vunivalu also made his mark in the lightweight category, defeating Army’s Ratu Kelevi Mawi.

However, the Army team experienced success as well, with Samuela Naqari triumphing over Jone Tuitabu in the 80 to 86 kg division. Additional victories for the Army included wins by Rusiate Qalo, Noa Yabakidrau, and Meli Nailumu.

As the competition progresses, the finals are set to take place today, promising an exciting conclusion to this remarkable sporting event.
