Divisional taskforces are actively dismantling alleged marijuana farms as part of their ongoing operations aimed at disrupting illicit networks during the festive season.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu reported that during a recent operation by the Savusavu Police in the Viani farming area, authorities confiscated over 200 plants suspected to be marijuana. In another significant raid in the Navosa highlands, more than 1,000 marijuana plants were seized. The owners of these farms are still unidentified, and investigations are underway.
ACP Driu emphasized that these seizures are critical in reducing the supply of illegal substances, as many of these plants were reportedly being prepared for distribution. In addition to rural operations, police have been conducting successful raids in urban areas as well.
Most recently, ACP Driu announced the seizure of several parcels of dried leaves, believed to be marijuana, from two vehicles at a carrier stand in Suva. As investigations progress, police have detained several suspects in connection with these incidents.
The Fiji Police Force remains steadfast in its commitment to disrupting and destabilizing drug networks, firmly warning that any attempts to undermine their efforts will not succeed.
This continued proactive stance reflects a positive movement toward safer communities and highlights law enforcement’s commitment to tackling drug-related issues head-on. As these operations continue to unfold, there is hope for a reduction in drug availability and a promotion for a healthier environment during the festive season and beyond.
