Divisional taskforces are intensifying their efforts to dismantle illegal marijuana operations as the festive season approaches, aiming to disrupt illicit networks across the region.
In one significant raid led by the Savusavu Police in the Viani farming area, authorities seized over 200 marijuana plants. Another raid conducted in the Navosa highlands yielded even more substantial results, with teams confiscating more than 1,000 marijuana plants. The identities of the farms’ owners are still under investigation.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu emphasized that these seizures represent a positive step in the ongoing mission to minimize the supply of illegal drugs, particularly as some of the seized plants were reportedly being readied for distribution.
In addition to rural operations, urban centers are also being targeted, resulting in successful outcomes. For instance, a recent raid at a carrier stand in Suva led to the confiscation of several parcels of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana from two vehicles. The suspects involved are currently in custody as investigations proceed.
ACP Driu reassured the public that the Fiji Police Force remains steadfast in its commitment to thwarting criminal networks and warned that any efforts to hinder their operations will be futile.
This proactive approach by law enforcement not only aims to curb drug distribution but also serves to promote public safety during the holiday season, offering hope for a more secure environment. The community can take encouragement from these efforts, signaling a robust stance against illegal activities as the festive period approaches.
