Police are intensifying their efforts against illegal drug activities this holiday season. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu has made it clear that anyone suspected of drug involvement will be targeted. He stated, “We are targeting anyone suspected of drugs,” as he announced plans to inspect known drug hotspots, as well as vehicles and vessels that raise suspicion.
ACP Driu pointed out that drug-related arrests are occurring daily, with law enforcement ramping up operations to combat the drug trade during this busy time of year. He has called on the community to join in the fight against drugs to help facilitate these operations.
In a recent incident on the Nadonumai roundabout in Lami, near Suva, police conducted a routine check on a vehicle, where the driver allegedly threatened an officer. This prompted further investigation, which, with the assistance of the K-9 Unit, led to the discovery of a plastic wrapper containing five dried branches and leaves believed to be marijuana. A follow-up search at the suspect’s home uncovered additional marijuana, leading to his detention at the Lami Police Station as investigations continue.
ACP Driu reiterated that this operation is just one of many in their ongoing efforts to reduce drug-related crimes throughout the festive season.
By prioritizing public safety during this time, law enforcement is sending a strong message that drug-related activities will not be tolerated. The community’s support in reporting suspicious activity will be crucial in ensuring a safer environment for everyone as we head into the new year.
As police efforts continue, there is a hopeful outlook that these actions will lead to a significant decline in drug-related incidents, especially during a season that is meant for celebration and joy.
