Police are intensifying efforts to combat illegal drug activities throughout the festive season. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu has issued a clear warning to individuals suspected of involvement with drugs, stating, “We are targeting anyone suspected of drugs.”

During this peak holiday period, law enforcement will be focusing on known drug hotspots and conducting checks on vehicles and vessels associated with illicit activities. ACP Driu highlighted that drug-related arrests are happening daily, showcasing the police’s commitment to tackling the ongoing drug trade.

In a recent incident at the Nadonumai roundabout in Lami, near Suva, police conducted a routine traffic stop that escalated when the driver allegedly threatened an officer. Following this, the K-9 Unit was called to assist, leading to the discovery of a plastic wrapper containing dried plant material believed to be marijuana. A subsequent search of the suspect’s home uncovered additional marijuana-related evidence. The individual is presently in custody at Lami Police Station and is undergoing further investigation.

ACP Driu reiterated that such operations are part of the police force’s broader strategy to address drug-related crimes, especially during the festive season. He also encouraged community members to cooperate with law enforcement in their fight against drugs, emphasizing the importance of public involvement in securing a safer environment for everyone.

This proactive approach by law enforcement emphasizes the importance of community engagement in addressing drug-related issues, fostering a collective effort toward a drug-free society.

Summary: Police are focusing on curbing illegal drug activities during the festive season, with ACP Livai Driu warning suspects and detailing increased daily operations leading to drug arrests.
