The Extra Supermarket-sponsored Police team secured a commanding 6-1 victory over the Army to successfully defend their title at the Vodafone Ratu Sukuna Bowl soccer competition, held at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva yesterday.
The match began with an early advantage for the Police, as Army’s goalkeeper Epeli Loaniceva inadvertently scored an own goal, allowing Police to enter halftime with a 1-0 lead. The second half saw further goals from Ratu Apenisa Anare and Sailosi Nalaubu, bringing the Police’s tally to three without reply. Nalaubu added another goal in the 56th minute before Army managed to break through Police’s strong defense with a goal from Salacieli Dakuna in the 61st minute. However, the Police responded with three additional goals, solidifying their dominance in the match.
As the competition shifts to boxing and soccer, the focus will soon turn to netball and volleyball tournaments scheduled to commence today. With their title secured once more, the Police team returned home victorious, proud to retain the honor for another year.
