A police officer, William Mckay, is facing serious charges for unlawful possession of illicit drugs after being found with 40.07 kilograms of marijuana. During a recent search at his residence, authorities recovered 6,037 branches of dried marijuana leaves. Mckay made his first appearance before Magistrate Pulekeria Low at the Suva Magistrate’s Court, where he was granted a $1,000 cash bail.

The conditions of his bail require him to reside in Navua with one of his sureties and report to the local police station twice a month. A stop departure order has also been issued against him, reflecting the court’s concern for public safety.
