The Nausori Magistrate’s Court has officially transferred the assault case of 21-year-old Police Officer Constable Apimeleki Vakarusabola Colamoto to the High Court in Suva. This development follows Colamoto’s appearance before Magistrate Samanunu Vaniqi, where he was charged with an act intended to cause grievous harm stemming from an alleged assault on Vilikesa Bari on November 17 of this year.
During the proceedings, Police Prosecutor Shelveen Sharma sought the transfer to the High Court, which was subsequently granted. As part of the bail conditions, Colamoto must pay a cash bond of $100, provide two sureties, surrender his travel documents, comply with a stop departure order, refrain from reoffending, and avoid any contact with State witnesses.
Colamoto is scheduled to appear in the High Court in Suva on January 20, 2025, where he will receive his disclosures and enter his plea. He has been allocated time to consult with a Legal Aid lawyer.
