The Nausori Magistrate’s Court has passed the assault case of a 21-year-old police officer, Constable Apimeleki Vakarusabola Colamoto, to the High Court in Suva. Colamoto faces a charge of acts intended to cause grievous harm linked to an incident involving Vilikesa Bari that occurred on November 17 of this year.

During proceedings on Friday, Police Prosecutor Shelveen Sharma requested the transfer of the case, which was approved by Magistrate Samanunu Vaniqi. Colamoto has been granted bail with specific conditions, including a payment of a $100 cash bond, the provision of two sureties, surrendering all travel documents, and adhering to a stop departure order. Additionally, he must refrain from reoffending and avoid any interference with State witnesses.

Colamoto is scheduled to appear at the High Court in Suva on January 20, 2025, to receive his disclosure information and enter a plea. He has been allotted time to consult with a Legal Aid lawyer prior to this date.

This case highlights the legal process and the importance of accountability within law enforcement. It serves as a reminder that all individuals, regardless of their position, are subject to the rule of law. The upcoming court appearance will be a pivotal moment for all parties involved, as it aims to ensure justice is served.
