Three police officers and two civilians have been accused of tampering with methamphetamine that was kept as evidence at the Totogo Police Station in Suva. The officers involved are Roy Seinibici, Inoke Tikomaimalevani, and Samisoni Ralulu, along with two civilians named Anare Buresolei and Anare Buresolei Vulaki, all facing charges for interfering with evidence.
The alleged incident took place between February 9 and 10 of this year during an operation conducted by the Southern Division Police Operation team. It is claimed that the accused either directly involved themselves or assisted in the tampering of the seized drugs.
Originally scheduled to begin this morning in front of Senior Magistrate Sufia Hamza, the case has been adjourned, with all matters listed today postponed. The charges against the individuals have been officially sanctioned by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. The five accused will appear in court again on January 14, 2025.
This case highlights ongoing efforts to maintain accountability within law enforcement agencies. The legal proceedings will provide an opportunity for due process and, hopefully, contribute positively to restoring public trust in the justice system. As the situation unfolds, it serves as a reminder of the importance of integrity among those in roles of authority.
