The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has approved charges against a police officer accused of sexual assault and rape involving a minor relative.
Assistant Commissioner of Police – Crime, Mesake Waqa, stated that the allegations date back to between 2019 and 2023, during which the accused reportedly sexually assaulted the victim multiple times at various locations in the Central and Eastern Divisions.
The case was investigated by the Criminal Investigations Department’s Sexual Offenses Unit, which subsequently sought independent legal advice from the ODPP after concluding their inquiry.
Following the ODPP’s guidance, the officer has been charged with nine counts of sexual assault, three counts of rape, and one count of defilement of a person aged between 13 and 16 years.
