The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has approved charges against a police officer implicated in multiple instances of sexual assault and rape involving a minor relative.
Assistant Commissioner of Police – Crime (ACP) Mesake Waqa reported that the accused is believed to have sexually assaulted the victim on several occasions from 2019 to 2023 at different locations within the Central and Eastern Divisions.
ACP Waqa explained that the Criminal Investigations Department’s Sexual Offenses Unit handled the case, and once the investigation was completed, independent legal advice was requested from the ODPP.
Based on the ODPP’s advice, the officer has been charged with nine counts of sexual assault, three counts of rape, and one count of defilement of a person aged between 13 and 16 years.
