The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has authorized charges against a police officer for alleged sexual assault and rape involving a minor relative.
Assistant Commissioner of Police – Crime (ACP) Mesake Waqa reported that the accused is alleged to have sexually assaulted the victim multiple times between 2019 and 2023 at various locations in the Central and Eastern Divisions.
According to ACP Waqa, the case was managed by the Criminal Investigations Department’s Sexual Offenses Unit, which completed its findings before seeking independent legal advice from the ODPP.
Following the ODPP’s guidance, the accused has been charged with nine counts of sexual assault, three counts of rape, and one count of defilement of a person aged between 13 and 16 years.
