A police officer has been charged with unlawful possession of illicit drugs after a significant operation led to the discovery of 6,037 branches of dried leaves, confirmed to be cannabis sativa, at his home on Wednesday night. The officer was taken into custody following a police search based on a tip-off, and the authorities have stated that he will appear before the Suva Magistrates Court tomorrow.

This incident is part of a broader initiative by the Fiji Police Force to combat internal corruption and drug-related offenses within its ranks. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized the commitment to accountability, stating that these actions serve as a firm reminder that no one is above the law. The police force has been actively working to dismantle drug trafficking networks and enhance the integrity of law enforcement.

Such decisive actions against officers engaged in illegal activities are critical in fostering public trust and encouraging community members to report suspicious activities. With continued efforts to address drug-related crimes, there is hope for a safer environment where the community can feel supported by a transparent and accountable police force.

The collective action taken against these serious issues not only aims at promoting a drug-free community but also reinforces public confidence in the justice system, ultimately paving the way for a more secure and harmonious society for all residents.
