The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has approved charges against a police officer accused of sexual assault and rape involving a minor relative.
Assistant Commissioner of Police – Crime (ACP) Mesake Waqa stated that the alleged offenses took place on multiple occasions between 2019 and 2023 at different locations in the Central and Eastern Divisions.
The investigation, conducted by the Sexual Offenses Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department, was completed and independent legal advice was sought from the ODPP.
Based on the advice from the ODPP, the officer has been charged with nine counts of sexual assault, three counts of rape, and one count of defilement of a person aged between 13 and 16 years.
