A police officer has been charged with unlawful possession of illicit drugs after a substantial quantity of cannabis sativa was discovered at his residence. The search, conducted on Wednesday night, resulted in the seizure of 6,037 branches of dried leaves, which have been tested and confirmed to be marijuana. Following these findings, the officer is currently in custody and is set to appear in the Suva Magistrates Court tomorrow.

This incident reflects ongoing efforts by the Fiji Police Force to tackle internal corruption and drug-related crimes within its ranks. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, previously emphasized the police’s dedication to ensuring accountability and integrity among officers. He has noted that actions taken against officers involved in illegal activities demonstrate a firm commitment to the principle that no one is above the law.

Such decisive measures not only serve to reinforce public trust in law enforcement but also encourage community members to report any suspicious activities. The police force’s firm stance against drug-related offenses is a critical step towards fostering a safer environment for all residents, and it is hoped that these actions will further promote a drug-free community.

Continued vigilance and proactive measures from the Fiji Police Force may pave the way for enhanced community safety and support, ultimately leading to a more secure society.
